What a travel map is and why it matters

A travel map is a personal atlas where every pin belongs to a real trip — a date, a route, photos and your own words. Unlike a plain list of countries, it shows how your travels actually unfolded: where you returned, which cities formed one journey and which places are still waiting.

Atlas runs in the browser on iPhone, Android and desktop. There is nothing to install: sign in and your map opens exactly where you left it.

Add a place in seconds

There are three quick ways. “I am here” detects your location and fills in the city, country and today’s date. “On the map” lets you simply tap a point. “From photos” reads the location and capture date — even from iPhone HEIC files.

To find a place by name, type it in any language: “Pattaya”, “Паттайя” or the local script. Results appear in your interface language.

Routes and trips

Stops are grouped into a trip with a cover, dates, a description and a mini route map. Stops follow their dates, so even a long journey across several countries reads as one connected story.

“Time travel” replays your trips by date: the map flies from place to place and draws the route. It is a lovely way to relive a year or show a journey to friends.

Photos next to the places

Photos belong to a specific place and note. On the map they appear as round photo pins: hover on desktop to open a trip postcard with a slideshow; on a phone, swipe the cards at the bottom and the map follows.

Originals are kept and can be downloaded. For anything you publish, Atlas strips the location metadata from the files.

Visited, dreaming, lived

Each place has a status: visited, wishlist or lived. Dream destinations stay separate from your visited-country statistics, so the map remains both an honest journal and a list of plans.

Private by default

Your map is visible only to you. A shared trip is visible to companions who accepted the invitation. Public links are created by the trip organizer, who chooses what to include, can set an expiry and can revoke access at any time.

FAQ

How much does Atlas cost?

Atlas is free right now. Any paid features in the future will be optional and will never lock data you have already saved.

Does the map work offline?

An internet connection is required. Your data lives on the server, so the map opens the same on phone and computer.

Which languages are supported?

The language follows your device settings and can be changed manually. Russian and English are available today.

Can I import places from another app?

Yes. Atlas imports KML, KMZ, GPX, CSV and JSON files with a preview and duplicate detection.
